Iago the Pimp
Iago is like a pimp because he has the confidence of a pimp. No matter what, he never shows that he is scared. He is assertive and never shows hesitation, that's why people believe in his lies. He is smooth with his words and he finds people's insecurity and attacks it. He is smart and manipulates people into thinking what he wants them to believe. He just wants to ruin people's lives to feel better about himself.
The Techniques of Iago
Iago manipulates Brabantio by public humiliation. He tells then that thieves stole his daughter and they are robbing his house.

The Effects on BrabantioBrabantio goes to Othello's place and accuses him of stealing his daughter. Brabantio is furious that his daughter went missing from the house to marry Othello. According to Rodrigo and Iago's rumor, it makes him believe that she was drugged.

Iago's Devil/Hell Speech
"Awake the snorting citizens with the bell, or else the devil will make a grandshire of you"(Act I, Scene 1).

Iago's Getaway
Iago gets away by pretending to warn Othello that Brabantio is coming. He tells him that his father-in-law is coming and he is mad that Othello took is daughter. He also makes Othello angry at his new father-in-law by telling him that Brabantio is making a big deal about the whole thing.

The techniques of manipulation that Iago uses on Othello is; acting like Othello's best friend and warning him about Brabantio's presence. He tells Othello that he can trust him and that he will always have his back. Warning that Brabantio is coming, helps Othello to be prepared and for him to trust Iago. This helps with Iago's with his plan because it will be easier to manipulate and take advantage of him.

The effects of this manipulation is that Iago is now in Othello's list of people he can trust. Iago has earned his trust. Othello was also ready for the accusations which means he won't be humiliated or surprised.

Janus RelevanceIago's reference to Janus is significant because Janus( God of two faces). Iago is two faced and he cannot be trusted. He is being fake and he is actually an evil person.

Othello's Charge!Brabantio is accusing of Othello using witchcraft against his daughter in order for her to marry Othello. He doesn't believe that his daughter would run off and marry with him without his permission. He sees his daughter as property and not as a person.
